Landour hill Station




Landour is a town adjacent to Musoorie.This hill station is a cantonment.Like Chakrata, the free entry is also restricted here. This is located a just 35 kilometers away from the capital city of Uttaranchal (Dehradun). The two towns namely Landour and Musoorie are famous from British India period. Actually the name of Landour is derived from the name of a village Llanddowror located in South Wales.

In the initial age of this hill station, this place was meant only for Military. During 1827, this hill station was the convenient place of normal military operation. The main building of sanatorium is presently being used as Technology Institute by Defense Research and Development Organisation. This building primarily was being used as rest house for soldiers who were on Indian tour. The soldiers in Indian military units were used to stay in this building as a relief tour of their tenure. The 75% portion of Landour was the cantonment. The edge of the hill station is spread until Mussoorie.During 1825, the first ever building was constructed in this hill station.The founder of this city was the first ever commandant of Infantry regiment deployed in India.

Evidences of this aspect are existing that first ever Sirmour Rifles regiment was raised in this cantonment. Sirmour(at that time was a part of Punjab, later demarcated allotted to Himachal Pradesh).

How to Reach
All the three major ways of transportation are available to this hill station.
By Air
Nearest airport to access this hill station is Jolly Grant. Routine flights are available to Jolly Grant Airport from Delhi.
By Rail
Dehradun is the nearest railway station. 180 kilometers journey from Delhi is required to reach this station. Frequent trains are available to this station.
By Road
Taxies and Cabs are easily available. From Musoorie, not more than a 2.5 hours journey is needed to reach this hill station. Taxies on “Sharing” basis are also available.
