On the way to Coonoor, one can see the tribes of the Badagas and the Todas in the tiny village of Ketti. The Pali Hills of Kodaikanal are splendid while Yercaud is known as the 'Ooty of the Poor' with its aromatic coffee plantations and orange groves and more economical prices. Ketti has the highest railway station in the country at an altitude of 7,000 ft above the sea level while world-famous tea farms of Ooty are simply lovable. Kotagiri, the oldest hill station of the Nilgiris was once a British hill resort and features Elk Falls, Kodanad Viewpoint, Catherine Falls, and a wonderful golf course.

Anantagiri Hills

Anantagiri is a beautiful hill resort in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is popular among tourist because of its natural beauty. Aruku Valley

The Aruku Valley is a hill station in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated at an altitude of 1300 m above the sea level on Anantagiri hills. The Aruku Valley is group of five valleys and has some of the best waterfalls and streams. The distance of the valley from Vishakhapatnum is 110 km and 760 km from Hyderabad.

Araku Valley Tour, 115-km from Vishakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh is close to the Orissa State, border. This place lures people with pleasant weather, hills and valleys. The natural beauty of this valley comes alive with its rich landscape. The area of the valley is roughly 36-km and the altitude is between 600 and 900m above the sea level.

The holiday journey to this place on the Ghat road with thick forests on either side is in itself interesting and pleasant. One can have a wonderful trekking trip. 46 tunnels and bridges will greet you on the way.
The Ananthagiri hills on the way to Araku Valley are famous for coffee plantations. Borra Caves located 29-km from Araku Valley, are one of the famous nearby tourist attraction.


Coonoor
Coonoor is a fabulous hill station in the Nilgiri hills about 19 km from Ooty. Coonoor, located at an altitude of 1,856 metres, is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiri hills.The Sim's Park with all its natural beauty was constructed in 1874 has unique trees and plants. Facinating and unforgetable view points for tourist are Lamb's Rock, Dolphin's Nose, Lady Canning's Seat to name a few.Tourist can avail of the Toy train facility to get a detailed view of this place.

Though Coonoor has a beautiful weather but even then it is best to visit this place between the months of October and March.

History

Britishers developed Ooty as a very popular hill station for them to avoid the devastating Indian summer. But,soon Ooty became a popular tourist spot and lost its charm by the high traffic of visitors visiting the place.Soon a need was felt to have another eqally beatiful hill station.This gave birth to Coonoor.The grassy meadows, lovely sunflowers, marigolds and rhododendrons became a benchmark for this beautiful hill station.

Coonoor's has many hillocks which are perfect for trekking.This place attracts tourists for birdwatching as an extensive variety of birds can be spotted at the Nilgiris. Various species of vultures, eagles and owls, song birds like bulbuls, thrushes, babblers, larks, cuckoos, robins and several others act as melodious music for the visitors who are accustomed to the huzzle and buzzzle of city sound pollution.Coonoor has a number of perfect picnic spots.

John Sullivan, the Collector of Coimbatore, is credited as its founder who encouraged settlement here by building a Stone House, today known as 'Kal Bangla'.

Today, Kal Bangla is used as the Chamber of the Principal of the Government Arts College while the base camp at Parsons valley offers several trekking points within Western Ghats. Wildlife enthusiasts would certainly enjoy the trip to the sprawling Mudumalai Sanctuary nearby. Amateurs may choose to join hang-gliding courses at Ooty that are organized every year from March to May along with fishing camps. One needs license for fishing and angling in the various streams and lakes of Ooty and the main catch are usually Goad Trouts, Carps and mixed water fishes. However, it is the sprawling tea estates that have earned the real fame for Ooty and the annual Tea and Tourism Festival held in January here has gained international repute.
