Muniyara Dolmens, Munnar:Located a few kilometres from Munnar, the Muniyara Dolmens are magnificent prehistoric dolmens. Dolmens are ideally three or more stone place atop each other and a huge capstone. The Muniyara dolmens were a burial ground for the earliest inhabitants of prehistoric period. All the structures of dolmens point that they were made either during the nomadic period or even earlier.

The Muniyara Dolmen is the only remaining evidence of a tribe who revered the dead. A detail study of these tombs by archaeologist and anthropologist showcased a light on the pottery and iron metal found inside these chambers. The way leading to the Muniyara Dolmens has been beautifully crafted along the road.

Although much of the tombs present at the Muniyara Dolmens have been destroyed over time but it still is an attractive site for history lovers. Archaeologist and anthropologist are still inquisitive about the stones and the equipments used to lift them to create the dolmens.
